Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has confirmed prior reports of Eintracht Frankfurt interest in Wataru Endo.

The club particularly values Endo’s leadership qualities and experience, seeing him as someone who could provide the midfield presence they currently lack.

However, any potential deal appears contingent on Frankfurt securing Champions League qualification for next season.

The Eagles currently sit fourth in the Bundesliga table with eight games remaining, holding a three-point advantage over fifth-placed RB Leipzig.

A top-four finish would guarantee them a place in Europe’s premier club competition, enhancing their financial capabilities and appeal to potential signings.

BILD have asserted that the Bundesliga side will only move for the Liverpool midfielder if they reach the Champions League.

This season, Wataru Endo has seen his playing time significantly reduced at Liverpool, a concern as he prepares for the 2026 World Cup, for which Japan has already secured qualification.

As captain of the national team, Endo will be eager to secure regular minutes in the lead-up to the tournament to maintain his form and leadership on the international stage.

And now Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany has likewise reported of Frankfurt interest in the Japan skipper.

Taking to X, the reporter wrote:

“Eintracht Frankfurt have enquired about Wataru Endo. The 32y/o midfielder is a possible candidate for #SGE in the summer, but other names are also being considered.”

“Endo is allowed to leave Liverpool, as reported. Currently, the topic is not a priority for Eintracht, partly because the overall package is still too expensive.”

“Frankfurt are informed about the situation, as per Bild and confirmed by Sky Sports Germany.”

As mentioned, Eintracht values Endo’s leadership qualities, which they currently lack in midfield.

But strangely enough, prior reports have suggested his wages, which sit at a comparatively modest £50,000 weekly, will be an issue for the Bundesliga side.

While Champions League revenue will help Frankfort in that regard, it’s still been reported that Endo may have to agree to wage reduction to make the move feasible.
