Boost for Tottenham as Lucas Bergvall returns to training ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening
Injuries, illnesses and suspensions have majorly ruined Tottenham Hotspur’s season. These factors have majorly impacted the Lilywhites’ performances on the pitch.
They are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League and have already been eliminated from all domestic competitions. The Ange Postecoglou-managed side’s hopes now rest on the Europa League, which could define their campaign. Regardless of the situation, expectations remain high as Spurs will be under pressure to win all their remaining fixtures.
The North Londoners resume their Premier League duties after the conclusion of the final international break of the season with a trip to Chelsea on April 4. Their lack of involvement during the weekend’s FA Cup quarter-finals action means Ange Postecoglou and Co. have been afforded some extra time off to have players back from international duty. Before the hiatus, they were beaten by Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League.
However, there is a silver lining for Postecoglou as one of his key players, who couldn’t participate during the recently concluded international break despite teaming up with his national teammates, returned to full training with the squad at Hotspur Way last weekend, thereby offering a timely boost ahead of the run-in. And that player is Lucas Bergvall.
Lucas Bergvall was named in the Sweden squad for the international friendlies against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland last week. The central midfielder fell sick that made him unavailable during the shock defeat to Luxembourg. He was also subsequently ruled out of the 5-1 win over Northern Ireland in Belfast, making an early return to Spurs instead.
Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson confirmed last week that Bergvall was battling a cold. Ahead of the trip to Chelsea, the teenager’s participation was deemed doubtful, but it doesn’t look like that now.
Joe Hart rages at Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall for being lazy vs AZ Alkmaar.
Lucas Bergvall has been one of Tottenham’s standout players this season.
Tottenham released a training video on Friday as the squad regrouped following the international break, and Bergvall was spotted going through the paces following his early return from the Sweden camp. He looked in good spirits in the team training that included stars such as Richarlison, Micky Van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario among some.

The Stockholm-born prodigy’s involvement in group activities suggests that he recovered fully from a cold and should be available for the crucial London derby against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Bergvall has become a crucial player for Ange’s side this season, netting a goal and supplying four assists in 38 games across all competitions. Thus, it is a big boost for Big Ange to have Bergvall back from illness and raring to go against the Blues.
