Manager issues honest response when asked if £33m striker will join Everton this summer

Everton are showing an interest in several players domestically and on the continent ahead of the summer transfer window.

David Moyes will be given cash to spend after the Friedkin Group kept their powder dry in the winter window.

Everton are eyeing Sunderland’s Chris Rigg after his impressive season in the Championship, though, they’ll have to fork out £40m to land his signature.

Burnley centre-back Maxime Esteve has also been linked to Goodison Park, with Moyes keen on recruiting from the second tier.

The Toffees will be in the market for a striker, too, and there are already suggestions that Nick Woltemade could make the switch to Merseyside.

The Stuttgart bagsman has been in prolific form in the Bundesliga and now his former SV Elversberg manager has given his verdict on a potential Everton switch.

Nick Woltemade’s former manager drops verdict on Everton switch

Everton are showing an interest in Nick Woltemade after netting 12 times in Germany’s top-flight this term.

However, the Merseysiders are facing serious competition from European powerhouses Bayern Munich, who are closely monitoring him.

And, speaking to BILD, Woltemade’s former manager Horst Steffen has issued his honest response when asked about the recent links to Everton and Bayern.

“I don’t set any limits for Nick! When he left Bremen for Stuttgart, many were surprised because Nick only became a regular starter late at Bremen, I was surprised too, by the way,” Steffen explained.

“But now it’s obvious that it was exactly the right decision at the time, just like his loan to Elversberg. So why shouldn’t things work out at Bayern if the opportunity presents itself at some point and Nick wants to take it?”

Woltemade appears more likely to join Bayern Munich

Whether Steffen has any inside information remains to be seen, but he did appear to suggest a move to Bayern is much more likely, given he didn’t reference Everton at all/

Most of the best talents in the Bundesliga are hoovered up by Bayern and a £33m deal is much more feasible for them.

Everton will need to be efficient with their finances to ensure they don’t find themselves back in PSR bother.

Whilst they are one of the more cash-rich clubs in the Premier League, they still can’t afford to outlay that kind of money on Woltemade unless they’re absolutely certain he’ll be a success.

Everton might be better off signing Rangers’ Hamza Igamane, who will be a lot cheaper.
