Giants GM Drops Major Russell Wilson News Ahead of 2025 NFL Season

Throughout the offseason, the New York Giants have made several moves in order to improve off a disappointing 2024 season, in which they went 3-14 and finished in fourth place in the NFC East.

One of the biggest changes has been to the quarterback room, signing both Russell Wilson (one year, $10.5 million) and Jameis Winston (two years, $8 million) in free agency.

Considering that each saw significant time as a starter in 2024 for their respective teams; there was a belief that a positional battle to be the team's Week 1 starter could be brewing.

However, a clear leader has already emerged with Giants general manager Joe Schoen revealing that Wilson will be getting first-team reps during the spring.

Joe Schoen says Russell Wilson will get the first team reps for Giants this spring.

Just looking at the numbers, Wilson was very productive for the Pittsburgh Steelers last year, starting 11 games and completing 214-of-336 passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 95.6 passer rating.

He would also rack up another 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns, leading the Steelers to a 6-5 record and making his 10th career Pro Bowl.

Winston, on the other hand, appeared in 12 games for the Cleveland Browns, starting seven and completing 181-of-296 passes for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and an 80.6 passer rating.

When you combine that with his 83 rushing yards and one touchdown, it's not a huge surprise that he led them to a lowly 2-5 record.

Of course, now it will remain to be seen if Wilson can continue to secure the starting spot that is seemingly his or if the Giants see something even better in Winston throughout the offseason.
