Chiefs Won’t Be Dominant In 2025?

The Kansas City Chiefs have built up quite the bandwagon of followers since Patrick Mahomes became the starter in 2018.

Part of that is making at least the AFC Championship every year, along with winning three Super Bowls, the other part is that in crunch time, late in games, almost always, Mahomes and the Chiefs find a way to win.

But the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, for some, has taken a lot of the shine off what the Chiefs have built over the last five years, and some are thinking that the franchise's period of dominance is over.

While there could be some merit to that with the Chiefs' core of star players getting a little older, Fox Sports' Eric Williams has given four reasons why Kansas City's era of dominance is coming to an end, and one of them is its success in one-score games last season.

"Kansas City finished 11-0 in one-score games last season on its way to a 15-2 campaign, taking the top seed in the AFC," Williams writes. "Although Mahomes is one of the best closers in league history, it's unlikely the Chiefs can repeat that success in 2025. However, a regression to the mean in one-score games has to be the expectation in 2025, which means fewer wins during the regular season for the Chiefs - and a lower seed in the postseason."

Now, it is going to be extremely difficult for the Chiefs to repeat that effort in 2025, which, as Williams states, will mean fewer wins and a lower playoff seeding.

But as long as the Chiefs still have Mahomes and make the playoffs, the fear factor will remain.

However, did the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles ease some of that? Possibly, but when put into those pressure moments, there isn't a quarterback you would rather have than No. 15.

If the Chiefs don't manage to replicate their undefeated streak in one-score games next season, then the calls that the dynasty has ended will only grow louder.

But right now, we aren't about to write off the AFC champs, despite many giving us ample reasons to.
