Rangers might raid Arsenal for a key figure behind the scenes as part of the upcoming 49ers takeover at Ibrox.

The Scottish giants are set for a significant summer once the takeover at Ibrox is officially greenlit, as the new ownership will be looking to put their fingerprints on the Glasgow club moving forward.

There has been no shortage of speculation about which new players that might include, and who Rangers could end up buying this summer.

Of course, a decision will also have to be made regarding the managerial position as Rangers are currently without a permanent boss.

Barry Ferguson is in charge temporarily until the end of the season, but it remains to be seen if he will be kept on, or if the 49ers will look to bring in someone totally fresh.

Rangers want to land senior Arsenal man

However, there is a behind-the-scenes role that Rangers also want to fulfil as Arsenal’s Jason Ayto is set to become available this summer.

Rangers are eyeing the senior Arsenal figure, who originally joined the Gunners as a scout in 2014, but went on to gain further responsibilities.

He was named the interim sporting director after Edu Gaspar’s departure and even considered him for the role permanently.

Arsenal don’t want to let him leave this summer if possible, and the Premier League giants are in talks with the 40-year-old about his future.

However, according to TBR Football (31 March), Rangers have an interest in him ahead of the American takeover.

Mikel Arteta is a fan of Jayson Ayto

Ayto has impressed during his time at Emirates Stadium, and Mikel Arteta is a big fan of his, having previously stated he has been “phenomenal” in his role.

That is why numerous Premier League clubs also want to hire him, with Everton and Crystal Palace monitoring the ongoing situation, and they are not alone in that respect.

Both those sides will be losing key figures this summer as Kevin Thelwell is departing Goodison Park, while Palace’s sporting director Dougie Freedman is swapping Selhurst Park for Saudi Arabia.

It leaves each team in needing to find a replacement, which could end up being Ayto if they get their way.

Rangers look to also be in the running for his signature, though, in what would be a massive coup for the new owners.
