Ex-Liverpool marksman Adam Morgan, who was dubbed the best finisher at the club by Robbie Fowler, now plies his trade as a player/assistant manager in the eighth tier of English football. The 30-year-old, who was given his breakthrough by Brendan Rodgers in 2012, has had spells at Accrington Stanley, Yeovil Town and a plethora of other EFL and non-league clubs since leaving Anfield.

He returned home in 2022 to join Halewood Apollo and is now playing for his fourth club in just a year, Clitheroe FC. Scoring only one goal for Liverpool's senior team - in a pre-season friendly against Toronto FC - Morgan never became a regular member of Rodgers' squad. However, club legend Fowler once praised him as one of the best finishers around, even with talents like Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in the squad, and believed he had a bright future on Merseyside.

Morgan, who was in the same group of young talents as Raheem Sterling, joined the Reds in 2002 and made a significant impact eight years later by scoring 18 goals in just 16 games for the academy.

These impressive performances earned him a chance with the first team and attracted praise from Fowler, who had seen him play during a coaching visit to the academy.

"I think it was massive for Adam to be involved with the first team on this tour, and it was brilliant of the manager to give him that chance," admitted Fowler.

"As a goalscorer, I think he's fantastic. I was lucky enough to train with him at the Academy last year when I was doing some coaching. He is very left-footed, and his finishing is very good. He is composed in front of the goal and Rushie would tell you as well, if you are composed and patient in front of the goal then you will have a chance.

"He never looks ruffled and that to me is a great sign regardless of what level you are playing at. He's a young lad, he's got a lot to learn about his play outside the box, but that will come. As a finisher, he is probably one of the best I've seen for a long, long time, to be honest.

"It's wrong for me to say what he should be doing and so on because I'm not with him all the time, but in the games I've seen him play in, he's done alright. He's scored goals, and he's been a handful.

"He works hard, and he knows his job, which is to score goals. He has done that at every level he has played in so far. If you've got it, you've got it. You can tell people how to score goals, but it's about being instinctive, composed, and patient, and it could be 89 minutes before you get a chance."

Despite such promise, Morgan never made a significant impact at Liverpool. He didn't often feature on Rodgers' bench, making his senior debut against Hearts in a Europa League qualifier. He also started in the reverse fixture and another group game.

Morgan only played competitively for the Reds in the 2012 season. He was loaned to Rotherham United that January and sold to Yeovil 12 months on. Having moved clubs almost every year, Morgan has played in various tiers of English football and even spent time in Ireland with Sligo Rovers in 2018.

Plenty of non-league outfits later, the Merseyside native now finds himself at Northern Premier League Division One West side Clitheroe, where he also acts as an assistant manager.
