The Detroit Pistons are demonstrating remarkable resilience, securing three consecutive victories despite the absence of star guard Cade Cunningham, who is sidelined with a calf injury.
This winning streak had improved their season record to 42-33, positioning them No. 5 in the Eastern Conference.
Before yesterday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which resulted in their streak ending after a loss of 124-103, the Pistons had achieved a significant 133-122 win over the Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland Cavaliers.
Tim Hardaway Jr. led the team with a season-high 32 points, while Malik Beasley and Ausar Thompson contributed 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Thompson also added 10 rebounds and four blocks, showcasing the team's depth and versatility.
For the Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell had 38 points while Darius Garland had 21. Despite a good effort, it was not enough for them to beat Detroit.
The Cavs are already set for the playoffs, and it can be construed as if the team did not put all their effort into winning this game. They might be trying to avoid injuries.
Regardless, the outcome is a big win for Detroit. Not only because they beat a clear title contender, but also because they did it without their star player Cunningham.
Detroit's head coach shares thoughts on the team's recent success
Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff commended the team's performance in Cunningham's absence.
"They don't want to let him down… The belief is there. The confidence is there," Bickerstaff said.
"He has earned so much of their respect in putting this team together. He leads in so many ways. He has captured so many of the guys spirits."

The Pistons' ability to perform without key players like Cunningham and Tobias Harris has not gone unnoticed.
Their recent success underscores the development of their supporting cast and the effectiveness of Bickerstaff's leadership.
