Stanford is in the process of hiring former NFL head coach Frank Reich after firing Troy Taylor last week.
Taylor posted a 6-18 record over two seasons after coming over from Sacramento State before the 2023 season.
New general manager and former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck made the decision to part ways with Taylor as investigations revealed poor behavior toward staff members.
"After continued consideration it is evident to me that our program needs a reset," Luck wrote in a statement. "In consultation with university leadership, I no longer believe that Coach Taylor is the right coach to lead our football program. Coach Taylor has been informed today and the change is effective immediately."
Reich, 63, served as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts from 2018-2022. He coached Luck for his final season in the NFL, in which he earned NFL Comeback Player of the Year before abruptly retiring.
Riech, a former Maryland and NFL quarterback, spent the 2023 season at the helm of the Carolina Panthers before spending last season outside of coaching.
Stanford announced the move on Monday, noting that the hiring of Reich is nearly finalized and contingent on the completion of a background check.

"I could not be more excited for our coaches, staff and players to have Frank as our head football coach for the 2025 season," Luck said in a statement on Monday. "I have experienced first-hand the incredible impact Frank has demonstrated as a leader and have full confidence he is the perfect steward for this season of Stanford Football. Frank is a teacher, a winner and a coach of the highest caliber. Frank's values align seamlessly with our vision for this program and I firmly believe in his ability to maximize the on-field potential of our student-athletes while serving as a role model in all aspects of their personal growth."
Reich will serve the 2025 season as interim head coach. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, both sides have agreed to the plan, and Stanford will conduct a national search to fill the role after the season.
While this strategy is unique, Reich does provide a wealth of knowledge with nearly 20 years of NFL coaching experience. He is also a respected offensive mind, having served as offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl season of 2016.
Reich will make his coaching debut at Hawaii on Aug. 23.
