Today, Hong Kong Watch issued a letter to Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Commissioner Michael Duheme, urging him to immediately open an investigation to Liberal candidate and incumbent Member of Parliament for Markham–Unionville Paul Chiang’s comments against Conservative candidate for Don Valley North Joe Tay.
It was reported that Paul Chiang made [comments](https://www.mingpaocanada.com/tor/htm/News/20250122/tal1_r.htm) that Joe Tay should be turned over to the Chinese Consulate in exchange for a financial reward of HK$1 million, which are alarming and represent a dangerous endorsement of transnational repression.
The full letter can be read [here](/s/Chiang-RCMP-Letter.pdf).
This follows the issuance of a joint letter from 40 Hong Kong organizations demanding action against Canadian MP Paul Chiang from Prime Minister Mark Carney, led by Hong Kong Watch.
