Pundit believes Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham future depends on this factor

Spurs face uncertain future amid speculation over Big Ange’s fate

Tottenham have struggled for consistency this season, often playing the role of the Premier League’s Robin Hood. Reports now suggest that Spurs have put their player recruitment on hold as they decide whether to part ways with Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian manager faces an uncertain future in North London, with Tottenham’s hopes now solely resting on the Europa League after a disappointing domestic campaign.

Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown having reported to Football Insider that Ange Postecoglou is unlikely to remain in charge next season, with Fulham’s Marco Silva emerging as a leading candidate for the job.

Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, whose team is outperforming Tottenham this season, is also a top contender to replace the Australian.

However, former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that the Europa League could offer Postecoglou a lifeline, as winning the competition would completely change the narrative around his future.

Everything depends on the Europa League

Calls for Postecoglou’s dismissal have been justified this season due to Tottenham’s dreadful domestic form. However, winning the Europa League would end the club’s 17-year trophy drought.

On the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Paul Robinson stated that while a European triumph would overshadow an otherwise disappointing season, anything less than victory would likely result in Postecoglou’s departure.

The former Spurs’ keeper, speaking in Football Insider Podcast, clarified on the Coach situation in Tottenham

“you look at the season that they’ve had, it’s been a really poor season. A really poor season.”

“If they win the Europa League, it’s not been a poor season – they’re in the Champions League next year and they’ve got a trophy in the cabinet. Other than that, there’s no other way that keeps his job.”

“I can’t see a different way; they’re not closing the gap on the top six, top seven – whatever it’s going to take to get European football – they’re not even closing the gap on the top 10.”

“The outgoings at Tottenham… The conversation’s on hold basically for players coming in and out of the club. You wait and see who the manager is, who the new manager’s going to be next year.”

Tottenham will have to overcome Eintracht Frankfurt in a two-legged tie to make way for a possible semi-final against either Bodo/Glimt or Lazio. Postecoglou’s audacious assertion that he will have them winning silverware in his second season now truly lies in the hammock of these games. If Spurs get to the final in Bilbao, it will be a winner-takes-all game. A one-off match that could essentially determine the 59-year-old’s future.
