A Russian actor who starred in the Oscar-winning movie 'Anora' has been included in Ukraine's notorious database that contains names of individuals who pose a threat to Ukrainian national security, according to Russian media.
Mark Eydelshteyn is reportedly under Ukrainian scanner for attacking "the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine", reported RT News. The database, Myrotvorets, is notorious for how the people who get featured there allegedly die in suspicious circumstances. For the same reason, it has been branded 'kill list' in Russia.
The 23-year-old actor was included in the database for "attacking Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and repeated deliberate violation of the state border of Ukraine by visiting Crimea", which came under Russia in 2014. Though there is no official confirmation from Ukraine, the allegations stem from Eydelshteyn’s supposed role in the movie 'The Land of Sasha' which was released in 2022. This was shot in Crimea. Eydelshteyn played the lead role in the movie, which premiered at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in 2022. The movie also positioned him as one of the top actors in the country.
Eydelshteyn shot to worldwide fame starring as Ivan 'Vanya' Zakharov in US director Sean Baker's film 'Anora'. The movie won five Oscars at the 97th Academy Awards in March and also the Palme d'Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
As for Myrotvorets, the database was created in 2014 by Ukrainian politician Heorhiy Tuka and a former State Security Service (SBU) officer using the pseudonym Roman Zaitsev. Though not affiliated with the Ukrainian government, the website includes names of people accused of colluding with Russia or participating in pro-Russian separatist movements.
Though those who run the list called Myrotvorets as a tool to screen individuals at government checkpoints and supplement official database systems, many reports have noted that people who have died after being added to the list, such as former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, pro-war propagandist Daria Dugina, and Italian journalist Andrey Rocchelli, have been labelled as "liquidated."
