Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson became the highest-paid player in the NFL when he signed a $260 million contract in 2023. His next extension will dwarf that, coach John Harbaugh said Monday.
Jackson is signed through the 2027 season, but his coach confirmed that the franchise has already started discussing an extension.
“How far along that is or whatever, I don’t know,” Harbaugh said. “You have to manage that dance, the salary-cap dance. Lamar is the main part of that because he’s the franchise player. That’s a possibility, I think. Sooner or later, definitely it’s going to have to happen.”
Jackson finished second in last season’s MVP voting, a touch behind Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Baltimore’s two-time MVP has led the team to the postseason in six of his seven seasons as a starter.
Playoff success has proven elusive, though. Jackson has posted a 3-5 playoff record, struggling to replicate his dominant regular-season performances.
Regardless, the Ravens’ signal-caller’s next deal will likely dwarf his AFC colleagues. Allen signed a six-year, $330 million deal earlier this month. Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes has a ten-year, $450 million contract.
Those nine-figure deals will be the baseline for Jackson.
“The value is the top,” Harbaugh said. “When Lamar gets paid, he’s going to be the highest-paid player in football, just like he was last time. I think every contract he signs till he decides to hang up his cleats, he’s going to be that guy.”
