Aston Villa have announced a loss of £85.4m for the 2023/24 season, but claim that these figures are in line with their strategic business plan.

Having lost £119.6m in the prior year, the club has reduced losses by over £34m, in part thanks to returning to European football for the first time in over a decade.

However, according to UEFA’s European Club Finance and Investment Landscape, Villa's loss is among the 10 largest in Europe, despite the club reporting a sharp increase in revenue.

Revenue increased during the year by 27 per cent to £275.7m, up from £217.7m in the previous year.

Villa report that a significant part of that increase is also driven by finishing fourth in the Premier League versus a seventh-placed finish in the previous year.

They continued to invest in infrastructure last season, with capital investment increasing to £16.4m, while that commitment continued into 24/25 with a complete revamp of all their hospitality lounges in advance of their Champions League return, as well as investments in a new retail store, fan experiences and the wider stadium.

A club statement added: “Whilst we continue to seek opportunities to increase the capacity of the stadium, we recognise that this must be done in tandem with improvements to the local transport network. We continue to work with local authorities to find appropriate solutions that will allow fans safe, efficient and affordable access to and from games.

“The owners of Aston Villa remain committed to the long-term and sustainable development of the Club, and we look forward to continued progress on the delivery of our strategic plan.”
