Chelsea offer £40m for Liverpool star desired by several top clubs

Chelsea wants Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher during the summer transfer window as Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili arrives at the Merseyside club. Liverpool signed Mamardashvili in advance for the 2025-26 season during the summer of 2024 despite having two fantastic goalkeeping options.

However, Mamardashvili struggled with form throughout this season with Valencia’s overall performance as a mitigating factor for the Georgian international. Meanwhile, Kelleher continued to play a crucial role for the Reds this season in the absence of first-choice Alisson Becker.

The 26-year-old made his intentions to leave Liverpool clear last season as he desired to become a number-one goalkeeper elsewhere. Liverpool fans understand the demand for their academy player as he has enjoyed incredible development as Alisson’s reliable goalkeeping deputy.

The Irishman has played a pivotal role as the main keeper under Jurgen Klopp in Liverpool’s two Carabao Cup triumphs. However, Kelleher’s next destinations remain up for debate with a mutually beneficial decision playing a critical factor for all parties.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea wants Kelleher from Liverpool during the summer and are willing to pay £40 million for him. While the alleged offer is under a justifiable range, Chelsea remains a rival club for the Reds despite their struggles.

Strengthening the London rivals could backfire for Liverpool but the valuation remains an intriguing factor if the club solely focus on themselves and what is best for Kelleher. There are many clubs interested in the Republic of Ireland international and that could play a critical factor.

A bidding war would favour the Reds to extract the most out of their second-choice goalkeeper during the summer. However, they need to balance that aspect with what the 26-year-old deems favourable to him as well.
