The Pittsburgh Steelers may be comfortable going into the season with Mason Rudolph as their starter, but that also may just be what they are telling people. In reality, there is little doubt that the Steelers are banking on landing four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers in free agency. And if, for whatever reason, they are not able to get him, they almost assuredly will try to trade for Atlanta Falcons veteran Kirk Cousins.
But with the 2025 NFL Draft less than a month away, Pittsburgh is still waiting on a decision from Rodgers. They have had the parameters of a contract in place for weeks, but not even a six-hour long meeting at the Steelers facility moved the needle much.
Presumably, Rodgers is still trying to decide between Pittsburgh and retirement, and the Steelers are not trying to rush him.

Speaking at the NFL owner meetings, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reiterated what the organization has already said: they do not have a deadline for Rodgers to make a decision with them.
“He’s a free agent. As you guys know, he came to visit last Friday,” Tomlin told reporters. “We had a really productive day. He’s been in this thing a long time. I’ve been in this thing a long time. But there’s no substitute for intimacy and spending time together and getting to know one another in a non-competitive environment, so that was really good. But I don’t have any new updates in terms of where the process is. We’ll see where it leads us.”
But if fans were worried that Rodgers is just sitting around waiting for some kind of revelation, they need to worry. According to reports, he is still actively evaluating his decision.

Earlier this offseason, the Steelers acquired Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks. Rodgers wanted to make sure he and Metcalf could click, so he arranged a throwing session.
Per NFL Network:
“Rodgers and Metcalf had a throwing session over the weekend at UCLA, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported on Monday, per sources informed of the workout.
“It’s another box-checking move for the 41-year-old, who met with the team 10 days ago in Pittsburgh. By all accounts, the get-to-know-you meeting went well as Rodgers weighs joining the Steelers versus waiting for another landing spot to materialize or possible retirement.”
And now, fans must keep on waiting.
