Breaking: Erling Haaland injury latest as Man City issue major update

Erling Haaland of Manchester City sits on the pitch injured during the Emirates FA Cup Quarter Final match between AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City

Erling Haaland was replaced in Manchester City's FA Cup win over Bournemouth

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland faces a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury, the club have confirmed.

The striker was forced off in the second half of the FA Cup win at Bournemouth, which City won 2-1. Haaland had initially tried to play on before being replaced by Omar Marmoush, who scored what proved to be the winner within minutes of his arrival.

Haaland left the Vitality Stadium in a protective boot and on crutches as a precaution. He was assessed on Monday and the club have confirmed he has suffered an ankle injury which will rule him out for a period of time.

He won't feature against Leicester City on Wednesday and will surely now miss the Manchester derby this weekend. City expect him to be fit before the end of the campaign, but a timescale remains unknown until the frontman undergoes further tests.

A City statement read: "Manchester City FC can confirm that Erling Haaland has suffered an injury to his left ankle.

"The Norwegian striker sustained the injury during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory away at AFC Bournemouth. Erling underwent initial tests in Manchester on Monday morning and will now seek specialist consultation to confirm the full extent of the injury.

"Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis. The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

"Everyone at the club wishes Erling a speedy recovery."
