Igor Tudor’s debut as Juventus manager was by no means perfect this past weekend, but Saturday saw the Bianconeri do something they hadn’t done in nearly a month.
Ya know, actually win.
Yes, the first game under Tudor was a successful one and very much a turn for the better compared to what Juventus had done in the final two showings of the short yet very eventful Thiago Motta era in Turin. The win over Genoa was an improved performance from what Juventus had done against Atalanta and Fiorentina in the final days of Motta’s tenure.
What changed?
What improved for the better?
It wasn’t just the formation that Tudor used compared to Motta. It wasn’t just less possession and a more direct kind of play going from the defensive phase to attack. Things were different under Tudor — and there were things to like but also things to still be competely uncertain about with eight games to go in the 2024-25 season.
But Juventus won and kept pace with red-hot Bologna in fourth place. That’s more than what we could say in the final days of Motta’s time as manager, so at least there’s that to say has changed for the better.
