Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are gearing up to make a £40 million offer to sign Liverpool shot-stopper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Chelsea are gearing up for another important summer transfer window. The Blues will once again go big in the market in order to bring in players who can further bolster Enzo Maresca’s squad. They have already started working towards it.
The London club will prioritise reinforcing the goalkeeping position, and according to a report from Fichajes, Chelsea seems to have their eyes set on Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher. They are preparing a £40 million offer to sign the Irish shot-stopper, who seeks a more prominent role.
Kelleher joined the Liverpool youth ranks back in 2015. He went up the ranks and got promoted to their first team in 2019. While people at the club rate him very highly, the 26-year-old has been forced into a backup role due to the presence of Alisson Becker.
Over the years, he has only featured in 65 matches for the first team, but the Irish international has delivered every time he has taken the field. He has 23 clean sheets in the limited opportunities.
While his contract at Anfield runs until the summer of 2026 and they consider him an integral part of their squad, his future looks uncertain. Kelleher wants regular game time, and with Giorgi Mamardashvili all set to arrive ahead of next season, the 26-year-old has no chance of being their number one anytime soon.
Chelsea to raid rivals Liverpool for Kelleher
As a result, he could end up pushing for a move away. Multiple top clubs are aware of his situation, and they would pounce on any opportunity to sign him. Chelsea are one of the clubs that holds concrete interest in the Irish goalkeeper.
The Blues are not satisfied with the performances of their current shot-stoppers. They want to push for another top goalkeeper in the summer and are ready to bet on Kelleher despite him not being a regular at the Merseyside club.
The player is eager to become a first-choice goalkeeper at a top club, which could work in Chelsea’s favour during negotiations. While Liverpool value him as a dependable backup and won’t part ways unless a compelling offer arrives, the Blues are preparing a £40 million bid—one that could be difficult to refuse.
