The West Ham player is on loan at the London Stadium with a £35 million option to buy.

Manchester United look set to sign a striker, centre-back, centre-midfielder and a wing back in the summer in order to help rebuild the squad under Ruben Amorim.

They have recently been playing 18-year-old Ayden Heaven alongside 19-year-old Leny Yoro at centre-back due to injuries to both Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire. However, Heaven suffered an injury last time out meaning that they are struggling for depth at the back.

Their lack of depth will likely cause the Red Devils to sign a centre-back in the summer transfer window who can play in a back three under Amorim’s system. They have been closely linked to a West Ham defender.

Man United expected to make second bid for Todibo

West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo was previously linked with a move to Manchester United in the January transfer window, however, they were unable to due to the fact that West Ham has an obligation to buy him.

Todibo is on loan from Nice at West Ham, however, the London club will have to pay his £35m transfer fee at the end of the season to avoid him going back to Ligue 1. According to the Athletic, Man United wanted to sign Todibo in the summer but were unable to because of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s shareholdings in Nice.

The report says that West Ham could have signed Todibo for the £35m transfer fee in January, and immediately sold him to United for £45m to make a £10m profit. However, Todibo reportedly wanted to stay in East London rather than move to Old Trafford.

However, United are expected to make a move for him in the summer window by which point he will be permanently at West Ham rather than at Nice. Todibo has made 19 Premier League appearances for the Hammers in a season plagued by injury problems.

Todibo could replace exiting defenders

If United were to sign the 25-year-old, he could replace Victor Lindelof who is due to leave the club at the end of the season.

The Swedish defender’s contract is set to expire after a spell of eight years at Old Trafford, there has been no indication that the Red Devils are expected to offer him a new contract meaning that he will become a free agent.

He isn’t the only departing centre-back either as Northern Irish defender Jonny Evans is also due to become a free agent and leave. At the age of 37, he is expected to retire or go into a coaching role.

However, even though they are due to see two centre-backs leaving, the emergence of Ayden Heaven means that they would only likely have to sign one to replace Lindelof and Evans as Heaven has established himself as a worthy option since joining from Arsenal in January.
