Manchester City have announced that Erling Haaland could still feature this season after suffering an ankle injury during Sunday's FA Cup win against Bournemouth. The Norway international endured a chaotic afternoon on the south coast when he missed a penalty but later dragged his team back into the game before going off injured.
The incident occurred in a challenge with Lewis Cook as his ankle rolled awkwardly underneath the Bournemouth star. Haaland received treatment but could not continue and was ultimately replaced by Omar Marmoush, who later scored the winning goal.
Pep Guardiola was unable to offer a clear-cut update in the immediate aftermath, but it appeared serious with the 24-year-old captured departing the stadium on crutches with his foot in a protective boot.
And now City have released a statement with a big update provided on his status. "Manchester City FC can confirm that Erling Haaland has suffered an injury to his left ankle," it read.
"The Norwegian striker sustained the injury during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory away at AFC Bournemouth. Erling underwent initial tests in Manchester on Monday morning and will now seek specialist consultation to confirm the full extent of the injury.
"Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis. The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
"Everyone at the club wishes Erling a speedy recovery."
While no clear timeline has been provided, City have suggested that he could feature in the final games of the season and potentially a third consecutive FA Cup final. Haaland's absence will come as a blow with City still attempting to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Following on from the club statement, Haaland looks set to definitely miss league home games against Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa while also remaining absent for the trips to Manchester United and Everton alongside their FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest at Wembley in late April.
Heading into May, Haaland featuring in fixtures against Wolves and Southampton also appears unlikely. With the FA Cup final set for Sunday, May 17, Haaland could return for that if City reach that stage with their game against Bournemouth that is scheduled for that weekend moving to earlier in the week.
On the final day of the season, the reigning champions travel to Craven Cottage to play Fulham with their Club World Cup campaign, which City expect him to be available for, starting the next month.
