Chelsea ready to pay €20 million to sign Serie A goalkeeper on Manchester City radar

Chelsea are ready to trigger Vanja Milinkovic-Savic’s €20 million release clause to sign the Manchester City goalkeeping target.

Chelsea and Manchester City are both interested in acquiring the services of Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. Both Premier League giants are on the lookout for a new shot-stopper, and the Torino goalkeeper is quite high on their wishlist.

Pep Guardiola is keen on having him in his squad, but according to TuttoSport via SportWitness, Chelsea could snatch him from their jaws as they are set to trigger his €20 million release clause.

While things didn’t work out for Milinkovic-Savic at Manchester United, he has certainly made quite a name for himself with his performances at Torino. He joined the Italian club back in 2017. The 28-year-old had spent a significant amount of time out on loan before actually getting a run in their senior team.

The Serbian international has only gone from strength to strength over the years. He has featured in a total of 149 matches and has kept a clean sheet on 51 occasions. He has been sensational this season for Torino. He has been involved in 28 league games, has conceded just 31 goals and has kept a clean sheet in nine of those fixtures.

His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed. There are clubs in England who are ready to prise him away this summer. While he still has a year left on his deal, there is a €20 million release clause in his deal that runs until the end of July.

Premier League giants to battle for Milinkovic-Savic

As a result, interested clubs have an ideal opportunity to sign him from the Italian club ahead of next season. Chelsea and Manchester City are two potential destinations for the 28-year-old.

Enzo Maresca is not convinced with the performances of either Robert Sanchez or Filip Jorgensen. As a result, he has asked for the signing of a new shot-stopper. The Italian manager has closely followed Milinkovic-Savic in the ongoing campaign. He is quite impressed with his consistent performances and wants to sign him this summer.

But they could face competition from Manchester City, who are also on the lookout for a new goalkeeper as the future of Ederson is up in the air. If the Brazilian ends up leaving, they want to bring in someone who can compete with Stefan Ortega for a place in the starting XI.

Milinkovic-Savic is someone Guardiola admires, but Chelsea are trying their best to ensure they can beat City to his signature. The Blues are ready to pay his release clause, which can certainly give them an advantage in the race.
