Anthony Gordon admits how he felt watching Newcastle beat Liverpool at Wembley after being…

Anthony Gordon was merely a spectator as Newcastle United beat Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

The 24-year-old was suspended for the game at Wembley, with Newcastle United missing one of their star players.

Fortunately for Eddie Howe, it did not matter. His team were able to make history without Anthony Gordon, as Newcastle beat Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup and end their trophy drought.

After the game, Gordon celebrated with the Newcastle fans at Wembley. While he did not play in the final, he was a key reason why the Magpies got that far in the first place.

Anthony Gordon delivers honest Carabao Cup final verdict

Despite not playing in the final, Gordon has admitted in a video on the club’s official Instagram account that it was incredible to be part of the celebrations.

“Unbelievable,” he said when asked about the day at Wembley.

“It was very difficult for me watching on, especially at the start of the game watching the lads walk out – just imagining myself playing.

“Once the game started that feeling left me. I just became a normal fan like the rest of us.

“Once the whistle went, it was the best feeling I’ve had in football. The euphoria of running on the pitch with the lads was unbelievable.”

When Anthony Gordon can play for Newcastle United again

Gordon has missed the Magpies’ previous two games through suspension, and will be unavailable for Wednesday night’s clash with Brentford.

Once that game is over, it will be the end of Gordon’s three-match ban.

The England international will be available again for Newcastle United when they play Leicester City on April 7th. That is the Magpies’ next game after Brentford, as Eddie Howe and his players prepare to travel to the King Power Stadium.

It remains to be seen if Gordon will immediately win back his place in the starting XI. Harvey Barnes has played very well in Gordon’s absence, while the former Everton player is also an injury concern.

He picked up a knock during England’s win over Albania, but it was reported that Gordon’s injury is not serious.

That will hopefully mean he is able to make his return to action against Leicester City, as Newcastle aim to ride this wave of momentum for the rest of the season and qualify for the Champions League.
