Liverpool are seriously weighing up a major reshuffle of their attacking options this summer, with both Luis Diaz and Darwin Núñez potentially heading for the exit door.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Diaz could be allowed to leave, with Arsenal among four possible destinations for the Colombian winger.
Since joining Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 for €45m (£37.5m), Diaz has been an exciting presence in the Reds’ forward line.
During his time at Anfield, the 28-year-old has contributed 37 goals and 20 assists in 140 appearances. This season alone, he has recorded 18 goal involvements (13 goals, five assists) in 42 appearances, making it his joint-best campaign in a Liverpool shirt.
However, with his contract set to enter its final two years this summer, speculation about his future has intensified.
Romano confirms Diaz exit is a possibility
Speaking to The Daily Briefing, Romano stated that Liverpool have yet to enter negotiations over a new contract for Diaz, increasing the likelihood of a departure.
“My information at the moment is that there is nothing advanced or concrete in terms of new contract talks at Liverpool,” Romano revealed.
The Italian journalist also disclosed that Saudi Arabian clubs had already shown interest in Diaz during the January window, though Liverpool opted to retain him at the time.
“*He wanted to stay at the club and Liverpool didn’t want to change the squad at that moment, so nothing happened,*” Romano added.
While Saudi clubs remain keen, interest from Europe is also strong. Barcelona are said to be monitoring Diaz closely, and while Romano could not confirm Arsenal’s involvement, he did not rule out a potential approach from Mikel Arteta’s side.
Darwin Núñez also set for summer exit
Diaz is not the only high-profile attacker who could leave Anfield this summer.
Romano also confirmed that Núñez, who has struggled for consistency since arriving in a club-record deal from Benfica, is another player who could be moved on.
“It’s still early in this story, but in general, there is a feeling that Diaz, as well as Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez, could be leaving Anfield in the summer transfer window,” Romano said.
While nothing is finalised yet, the growing expectation is that Liverpool will reshape their forward line as Arne Slot prepares to take charge.
If both Diaz and Núñez depart, it would mark a significant shift in the club’s attacking strategy heading into the 2024/25 season.
