Pedri plays down Ballon d’Or talk, suggests Raphinha or Yamal should win

Pedri’s sensational form has landed him praise from all corners. There are some who say he is the best midfielder in the world, and some who go a step further and say he should win the Ballon d’Or.

But the young FC Barcelona star played down such talk during a recent interview.

“The Ballon d’Or is something that’s a long way off for me. With a few exceptions like Rodri, it’s usually won by players who have good scoring stats. I prefer Lamine Yamal or Raphinha to win, as they have good stats and make a difference. I’m happy if we win titles,” Pedri said.

Raphina in particular has been touted as a potential Ballon d’Or winner due to his impressive stats in the UEFA Champions League and in big games.

Due to his focus on titles, not individual awards, Pedri was asked whether not winning the treble at this point would be a disappointment.

While insisting that “it wouldn’t exactly be a disappointment,” the midfielder admitted that “it would clearly hurt” to lose out on any trophy this season.

The Catalans are first in La Liga and in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey. They are also in the Champions League quarterfinals and due to play Borussia Dortmund.
