Manchester United have set sights on Inter Milan holding midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, as he does fit into Ruben Amorim’s style perfectly.
According to Fichajes, Hakan Calhanoglu has emerged as a target for Manchester United ahead of the summer. The Serie A set-piece expert has been one of the mainstays for Inter Milan, although he could open the doors for a new challenge in another league, as he fits into Ruben Amorim’s system perfectly.
Manchester United are looking ahead to do some important business in the summer window. The Red Devils are eager to sign players that fit into Ruben Amorim’s style, as the Portuguese manager wants players that suit his system as he tends to use a back three and wing-backs.
In theory, Amorim could effectively look at some other systems over at some continental clubs like Inter Milan to shape his ideas. As it stands, Manchester United are reportedly interested in Nerazzuri mainstay Hakan Calhanoglu, who has been a fulcrum in that system under Simone Inzaghi.
Calhanoglu sits at the base of the midfield with the support of two other midfielders on either side to help dictate play from a deeper role. Amorim could be using those ideas to shape his Manchester United side ahead of next season while using wing-backs to progress attacks.
Calhanoglu has been linked with a few clubs of late, as the Turkish international might be open to a new challenge in his career. Inter Milan had reportedly quoted €45 million to Manchester City ahead of January, and they might ask for something similar from Manchester United ahead of the summer, as they view the Serie A set-piece expert as a key part of their plans.
Could Manchester United sign Hakan Calhanoglu?
Manchester United can certainly sign Calhanoglu if they have the right money to spend on a 31-year-old midfielder, who does appear important to their short to medium-term plans going forward. The club are already making efforts to sell Casemiro, while Christian Eriksen is also expected to depart.
The exits of two of the most experienced midfielders from Manchester United could see the need to add a player like Calhanoglu. Inter Milan does not want to sell, although the fact that they have financial issues, and any sale of the Tuekish international would be a pure profit considering he arrived on a free transfer from AC Milan many years ago would make a sizeable offer from the Red Devils rather tempting.
