£62.5 million Liverpool target has confirmed transfer stance after rejecting “a lot of offers” in January

Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has strongly hinted at a summer move, and Liverpool manager Arne Slot has already suggested he has the quality to play for a top-five Premier League side.

The 25-year-old Brazilian has been one of Wolves’ standout performers this season, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.

His ability to carry the ball, create chances, and contribute defensively makes him an intriguing prospect for top clubs, including Liverpool, who are expected to revamp their attack this summer.

Cunha ready for the next step

Cunha recently admitted he turned down offers in January out of loyalty to Wolves, but now feels it’s time for a bigger challenge.

“I had a lot of offers (in January) but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” he told The Guardian.

“Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.

“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”

According to BBC Sport, Cunha has a £62.5 million release clause that becomes active this summer, making him an attainable target for clubs seeking a dynamic forward.

While Liverpool has not been directly linked with a move, Cunha fits the profile of a player they could target.

His versatility – capable of playing as a central striker or in a deeper attacking role – mirrors that of Roberto Firmino, whom he was compared to after impressing at Anfield earlier this season.

Slot is clearly a fan, having praised him in February: “Matheus Cunha is a quality player and he has the quality to play for one of the top five teams in England.”

With Darwin Núñez, Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota’s futures uncertain, Liverpool may look to reshape their attacking options. If Cunha is available, the Reds’ recruitment team will undoubtedly be keeping close tabs on his situation.
