President Donald Trump on Monday called the conviction of French far-right leader Marine Le Pen and her disqualification from the 2027 presidential race a "very big deal."
A French court handed down the ruling after finding Le Pen guilty of embezzlement, effectively banning her from seeking the presidency in the upcoming election.
"That's a very big deal," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked about that conviction.
"A lot of people thought she wasn't going to be convicted of anything... She was the leading candidate. That sounds very much like this country."
