All three have committed to try and get the bears to the northwest suburb, as long as it benefits the village.

The Bears gave the green light to in December to a property tax dealwith the Bears and area school districts, but the team has said for some time that it is focusing on a plan for a new stadium in Chicago.

Orland Park

In Orland Park, the race for mayor has been very heated and at times nasty between. Incumbent Mayor Keith Pekau, who ran and lost his race as a Republican for Illinois' 6th Congressional District last cycle against Democrat Sean Casten, is up against former village trustee and clerk Jim Dodge.

Pekau is an Air Force veteran and small business owner. Dodge is a consultant whose running on civility and better fiscal management in the village.

In its editorial, The Chicago Tribune called this the Orland Park mayoral race "disappointingly low and strikingly personal."

Dodge is running under the banner "Orland Park for All," promising pragmatic solutions to unite the community.

Aurora

In Aurora, sitting Mayor Richard Irvin is facing a challenge from Councilman John Laesch.

Irvin says the city is on solid financial footing, and the schools and safety are on the incline.

Laesch has loudly called Irvin out for what he calls major ethical issues and pay-to-play schemes where donors are awarded big city contracts. Irvin said there are no such schemes, and contractors are allowed to donate.

Laesch also wants to draw down massive debts in the city, focus on green energy, and improve streetlights, curbs, and water lines.

Waukegan and Evanston, Illinois to vote for mayor Tuesday 02:07

Waukegan

In Waukegan, the current mayor, Independent Ann Taylor, is facing three challengers as she fights to keep her job.

Also in the race are former Waukegan mayor and Democrat Sam Cunningham, Independent Ald. Keith Turner of the city's 6th Ward, and Republican former Ald. Harold Beadling, who represented the 4th Ward.

A hot topic this cycle has been how the winner will have to navigate tough fights to secure dollars from Washington to help fund public housing and food assistance programs in Waukegan.

Evanston

In Evanston, Mayor Daniel Biss is fighting for a second term.

Biss has been tested in several high-profile moments — supporting both the city's approach to the reparations for Black residents and the hotly contested new stadium for Northwestern University. Biss came out in favor of the new Ryan Field despite some residents being loudly upset with the addition of a handful of concerts each year.

Biss' challenger is Jeff Boarini, who has lived in Evanston for 35 years. Boarini worked in corporate media production, retired in 2016, and now volunteer-tutors and serves as a board member of a non-profit in Evanston.

Boarini says he is focused on better using the "wealth of talent" that lives in Evanston.

Dolton

The race for mayor in Dolton notably does not include current Mayor Tiffany Henyard, who has been plagued with scandals — including a federal investigation, and allegations of embezzling money and targeting political opponents.

Henyard promised a landslide win in the Democratic primary for mayor. Instead, she was swept out of the race in resounding fashion last month —defeated by a former political ally and village Trustee Jason House, under his "Clean House" banner.

House's challenger Tuesday is independent candidate Casundra Hopson-Jordan — of the "Rebuilding Dolton" Party.

We will have election results Tuesday night on our news at 10.
