The Boston Celtics are making a serious charge toward what they hope will be back-to-back NBA championships as the NBA playoffs approach. Coming into Monday, they had won eight games in a row and 23 of their last 27, and they appear to have the second seed in the Eastern Conference locked up.
They seem to be on their way to yet another win against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday evening, and in that game, guard Derrick White engraved his name into their storied history.
He surpassed Isaiah Thomas to set a Celtics franchise record for most 3-pointers made in a season with 246.

White has been an outstanding complementary player for Boston ever since it acquired him in a midseason trade three years ago. He's a utility-type player who will not only score and hit from the outside but will also handle the basketball, get after it defensively and hustle for loose balls.
Coming into Monday, he was averaging a career-high 16.5 points a game and was shooting 38.3% from 3-point range.
Boston has a 55-19 record and has an eight-game cushion over the third-place New York Knicks in the East. It is averaging an NBA-record 48.3 3-point attempts a game and is eighth in 3-point shooting percentage.
