Jameis Winston Makes His Feelings About Russell Wilson Perfectly Clear

The New York Giants turned a lot of heads when they signed quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year, $10.5 million contract just days after agreeing to a two-year, $8 million deal with Jameis Winston.

At the time, the Giants were also in talks with free-agent QB Aaron Rodgers, but it appears that Rodgers' top options are playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers or retiring.

Despite their signing two QBs along with bringing back 26-year-old backup Tommy DeVito, many analysts believe quarterback is still very much in play for the Giants when they draft third overall in April's draft.

In the matter of days, Winston went from presumed starter to the No. 2 guy and likely mentor to a rookie QB should New York draft Shedeur Sanders or another signal-caller like Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart or Louisville's Tyler Shough early in the 2025 draft.

As Winston signed his contract on Monday and was introduced to the New York media, he was asked if he was kept in the loop about the team's plans to bring Wilson in before he agreed to a deal.

"Yeah, absolutely," Winston told reporters. "I knew a free agent signing was going to come or maybe even a draft pick was going to come. But that's their business. My business is today, and today I have the privilege of finally becoming a Giant."

Winston and Wilson both come with plenty of starting experience.

But both have also seen their share of struggles, and some analysts view them as each other's insurance policy should they fail to find their footing in New York.

Wilson told reporters during his introductory press conference last week that he believes he's the Giants' starter, however, Winston firmly believes there's still a chance he could potentially take that starting job away if given the chance.

New York will likely begin training camp with Wilson ahead of Winston on the depth chart, but the former No. 1 overall pick made it clear he knew what he was signing up for when he chose the Giants over interest from a few other QB-needy teams.

"My role was explained to me as there is an opportunity at the quarterback position that we're looking forward to getting better at," Winston continued. "I signed up for that because I'm looking forward to getting better and being my very best self.

"So that's how it was. I didn't get a clean explanation of my role because I played so many different roles already. I've played every role that the quarterback room has to offer, so I'm ready for anything."
