Green Bay Packers Receive Huge Jab from Detroit Lions GM

The Green Bay Packers made a major rule change proposal this offseason. They decided to propose a ban to the tush push that the Philadelphia Eagles have made so popular.

While there are many who are in support of the ban, there are others who don’t want to see the play be abolished.

One of the supporters of the tush push happens to be an NFC North rival of the Packers. Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes has been very vocal about his support for the play.

During the annual league meetings, Holmes spoke out and took a jab at Green Bay. Even off the field, there is a clear rivalry between the two teams.

As shared by NFL reporter Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Holmes shared his opinion on the matter while meeting with the press.

“The Eagles came up with it. They’re effective at it. They’re really good at it. So. if you don’t like it, stop it. That’s our stance on it. Other teams have tried it and have not been as effective.”

Holmes does make a good point. There have been other teams who have tried to replicate the success that the Eagles have had and it has not gone well. Philadelphia has done an excellent job of perfecting the “brotherly shove” under head coach Nick Sirianni.

However, the Packers also have a valid point. There are health concerns that come with the play, although nothing serious has happened so far. It also slows down the speed of the game and it does give the offense an extremely big competitive advantage.

Only time will tell what the NFL decides to do, but Green Bay is clearly hoping to eliminate one of the Eagles’ favorite go-to plays.
