Manchester United have been handed an update on Hugo Ekitike as the French striker continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Eintracht Frankfurt forward has netted 19 goals and provided eight assists this season. The 22-year-old has replaced Omar Marmoush as the Bundesliga team's main attacking threat after his January transfer to Manchester City.

Ekitike demonstrated his abilities to English fans during the March international break when he scored a hat-trick in France's Under 21s' 5-3 victory over England. United are not the only club said to be interested, with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea also reportedly keen.

And journalist Fabrizio Romano, who specialises in transfers, has provided an update on Ekitike's future in his latest newsletter for GiveMeSport.

"I expect Ekitike to play in the Premier League next season, I said that 10 days ago and keep insisting as this is the feeling in the industry," Romano said.

"There are contacts already but from several clubs, too early to indicate a favorite."

The Reds are in desperate need of a new striker this summer as they continue to struggle for goals under Ruben Amorim. United have netted just 37 times after 29 games in the league this season, with strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee scoring just 14 times for the Reds across all competitions.

As well as Ekitike, United have been linked with several other strikers to cure their goalscoring issues, including Napoli's Osimhen, on loan at Galatasaray this season, and Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres.

United's problems up-front have contributed to their low league position of 13th. Amorim's men return to action after the international break on Tuesday night away at high-flying Nottingham Forest (8pm kick-off).
