Idrissa Gueye admits there's one thing on the horizon at Everton he's really not looking…

Everton fans don’t have too much longer to wait now until the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock officially becomes the club’s new home.

Goodison Park is playing host to its last handful of matches, with fans feeling a mixture of emotions.

Jamie Carragher recently insisted 99% of Everton fans want the move to Bramley-Moore Dock due to the age of Goodison.

But certainly for most, it’s bittersweet, with Goodison one of the iconic stadiums of English football, and a special place where many memories have been made.

Bramley-Moore Dock is a chance to start a new era, but one man who feels very conflicted by the new stadium move is Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Gueye is in his second spell with Everton, having first joined the club in 2016,

He spent three years on Merseyside before signing for Paris Saint-Germain.

Then in 2022, Gueye returned.

So Goodison is a place he’s spent a lot of time in. It is to be expected then that he is sad at the prospect of saying farwell.

He told BBC Radio Merseyside’s Giulia Bould (via BBC Sport): “We haven’t started speaking about this yet but it will come in the next couple of games.

“It will be a special moment for the club and for the team. But I’m not looking forward to this moment.

“Everything; the fans, the pitch, everything. It’s not something you can explain, the atmosphere is unbelievable. This atmosphere helps us a lot and makes it more intimidating for the opponent. It’s a special area and it’s good for us because it gives us more opportunities to win games.”

“I enjoy my life at Everton because Everton means a lot to me.

“I have nice friends here, my two kids were born here and they are big fans.

“It’s hard for me to talk about the new stadium because I don’t want to end the story with Goodison – it’s a special area for us.”

Recently Beto also admitted Gueye told him he may cry at Everton’s final game at Goodison Park against Southampton on May 18.

Gueye seems keen for Everton stay despite Goodison admission

Plenty of Everton fans will share Gueye’s sentiments about Goodison.

It’s interesting to note the tone of the comments from the tough-tackling midfielder.

Of course, he is out of contract this summer and currently stands to leave as a free agent.

But the line ‘I enjoy my life at Everton because Everton means a lot to me’, would strongly suggest he is very ready to stick around if the club want him to and can propose agreeable terms.

Everton are said to be keen to extend Gueye’s contract, so hopefully there will be movement on that very soon.
