‘Finally Those Bastards Are Getting Hit’ – Border Russians Revel in Moscow’s First Taste of War

Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR) has released a new audio intercept of phone conversations between residents of Russia’s border regions reacting to a massive wave of Ukrainian drone attacks. Strikes on the Moscow region, in particular, have triggered bitter comments, revealing deep frustration and resentment toward the Russian central government.

In the recording, a woman from the Bryansk region expresses open cynicism, almost gloating that the war has “finally reached” the capital, and slams the state’s indifference toward ordinary people outside of Moscow.

“They shot down 39 drones over Bryansk region. And over the whole of Russia – 338, including the Moscow region,” she says.

The woman adds that after the strikes on Moscow, people online started demanding that Russia retaliate by launching the experimental medium-range ballistic missile “Oreshnik” at Ukraine.

“Now Muscovites are demanding to be f**king protected by this ‘Oreshnik,’ our most famous one.”

She vents her anger at how attacks on the border regions were long ignored:

“When we get f**ked – it’s fine. But when it’s the f**king Moscow region – suddenly it’s a goddamn disaster! Let them sit the f**k down and shut up, those bastards. They’ve been living without fear, without a clue.”

She compares the privileged treatment of Muscovites to the ongoing suffering in Kursk and Bryansk:

“Look at them, acting like they’re special... Let them feel a bit of fear too. We’re the ones living on a f**king powder keg.”

In another intercepted call, a woman from Belgorod region shares that she was kept awake all night by the sound of drones, hoping they were heading for Moscow:

“I didn’t sleep all night – it was buzzing and buzzing. And I thought: yep, those b**ches are flying to Moscow. Seventy of them! Good. Should’ve gone straight to Moscow so they’d finally react. While poor people suffer, Moscow dances and sings.”

Both women complain about the weakness of Russian air defenses and the general confusion among military forces:

“If they don’t take action, we’re all f**king doomed,” one of them says.

These intercepted conversations once again reveal how Ukrainian drone strikes are shaking the psychological and informational space inside Russia – intensifying social tensions and deepening the divide between the “elite” capital and the war-weary borderlands.

Public frustration is rising – directed both at the Kremlin and at Muscovites, who are still seen by many as privileged, untouched, and detached from the realities of war.

HUR concludes the intercept with its signature message: “For every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people, there will be just retribution.”
