Davyd Arakhamia, leader of the Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s parliament), said President Volodymyr Zelensky had not held any meetings instructing his team to prepare for elections.
In an [interview](https://suspilne.media/983999-arahamia-zustrici-pro-vibori-u-prezidenta-ne-bulo/) with the news outlet Suspilne Media, Arakhamia said: “I not only didn’t attend such a meeting — I maintain that no such meeting took place at all. No elections are being prepared, no preparations are underway. All parliamentary parties and factions have agreed that elections should be held six months after martial law is lifted. And fundamentally, our position has not changed.”
On March 30, The Economist [reported](https://meduza.io/en/news/2025/03/31/zelensky-begins-preparing-for-elections-eyes-summer-timeline-the-economist) that Zelensky had convened a meeting to direct his team to begin organizing a vote following a full ceasefire, which, according to U.S. estimates, could come as early as the end of April. The outlet noted that lifting martial law would be a necessary first step in launching the electoral process. Ukrainian law also requires at least 60 days for campaigning, meaning the earliest feasible date for elections would be in early July. However, some officials told The Economist that electoral authorities would need at least three months to update voter rolls amid the ongoing war.
