Liverpool have concerns over Virgil van Dijk’s age as contract negotiations continue, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds captain, 33, is keen to sign a new deal but the delay in agreeing terms is due to a disagreement over the length of any contract.

Van Dijk will be 34 when the 2025-26 campaign starts but is still at the top of his game – seven years after joining Liverpool.

The centre-back still plays regularly for the Netherlands and will be a key man for his country at next year’s World Cup.

Van Dijk contract talks delayed over length of deal

Liverpool are desperate to keep key duo Mohamed Salah and Van Dijk with the club increasingly resigned to losing Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer.

Alexander-Arnold is closing in on a free transfer switch to Spanish giants Real Madrid when his contract expires in June.

Liverpool to bank ‘massive’ profit on teenager

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (31 March) that Liverpool face a tough decision on the future of teenage sensation Ben Doak in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Everton are considering joining the fight for the Scotland international’s signature, who is already wanted by Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

A big-money sale could help fund Liverpool’s transfer business in the summer window – with Slot’s side planning to be very busy despite their success this term.
