**Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is yet to sign a new Reds contract and now a significant update has emerged about his future at Anfield.**
The Dutchman’s Anfield future has been one of the big talking points of this season, as he lies on the cusp of leading Arne Slot’s side to Premier League title glory.
There has been concern from Liverpool supporters throughout the campaign regarding Van Dijk leaving on a free transfer this summer, and the same is also true for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.
While there has always been an element of hope that the 33-year-old will extend his stay with the Reds, a worrying update has now dropped.
According to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/liverpool-have-virgil-van-dijk-concern-after-new-contract-talks-sources/), Liverpool have “concerns” about Van Dijk’s age, in terms of offering him the contract that he wants, with negotiations ongoing.
The Netherlands international is “keen to sign a new deal but the delay in agreeing terms is due to a disagreement over the length of any contract.”
**Give Van Dijk exactly what he wants**
---------------------------------------
At 33, Van Dijk is admittedly not getting any younger, but there are no signs of him drifting past his peak, and there is no reason why he can’t remain one of the world’s best centre-backs until he is in his late 30s.
His style of play allows him to coast through so many matches, helped by his immaculate positional sense, and [Slot](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cd7xqe4gj57o) has made it clear how much he values him, saying last October:
_“We all see how good he still is and how much he contributes to our offensive style,” Slot said. “What you don’t see, and I do see, is how important he is in the training sessions. He is the most loud and he brings a lot of energy and quality into the sessions. What you see at the weekends is what I also see during the week and that is what you want to see. He is definitely our leader.”_
Losing Van Dijk would be an unbelievable blow, both due to his brilliance on the pitch and leadership off it, so Liverpool should give him what he wants, tying him down for the foreseeable future.
No Reds player has averaged more aerial duel wins per game this season (3.1), and he also comes on top when it comes to clearances per match (4.9).
