David Moyes has revitalised Everton since his return to Goodison Park earlier in the season.

The Toffees return to Premier League action on Wednesday (2 April) with a tough Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield.

The last time Everton faced their rivals, it was a feisty affair that ended 2-2 after a 98th-minute equaliser from James Tarkowski at Goodison Park.

Paul Merson highlights Moyes at Everton

When Sean Dyche left Goodison Park, Everton were sitting just one point above the relegation zone and under Moyes, that gap has extended to 17 points.

For the Scotsman now, it will be about seeing out the end of the season in top form and getting a good look at the squad to make sure the right people are kept on in the summer transfer window.

There will no doubt be plenty of change in Merseyside as Moyes will look to put his own stamp on the team and aim for higher ambitions next season.

Everton are unbeaten in nine.

Writing on Sportskeeda (31 March), Paul Merson admits he was wrong initially on Moyes, saying: “David Moyes has done a mind-blowing job at Everton.

“He proved me wrong when I said it won’t work for him the second time at Goodison Park. I had no doubts about him being a top manager, no question about that. I just thought Everton as a club had changed a lot from the last time he was here.

“It just shows how top managers can work their magic whenever they want.”

The Blues are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League games, although Merson has predicted that the Reds will come out on top with a 2-1 win.

Everton look ahead to new era

Everton are now looking forward to the season coming to an end, for all the right reasons.

This season has been one of transformation at Goodison Park with The Friedkin Group having completed their takeover of the Toffees just before the New Year.

The new owners have been putting plenty in place, with Angus Kinnear set to join from Leeds United and further appointments expected.

A move to Bramley-Moore Dock should put the Blues in a healthier position when it comes to PSR going forward, so they never have to worry about returning to the position they have recently be in.

In the summer transfer window, Moyes will be ready to work hard with those above him in the hope of reshaping the squad and pushing much further up the table next season.

The current Premier League campaign has shown that any side can push themselves up in the table under good management, and Moyes has certainly shown signs of that so far.

Survival in the top flight was the first part of the puzzle, but there will surely be much more to come from Moyes’ second stint in blue.
