Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley may have picked up a setback during training post his return from a knee injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert has explained the best and worst case scenarios as the Englishman has been ruled out of action for a while.
The 31-year-old has not featured for Villa since the 2-1 win against West Ham on 10 January.
Brighton v Aston Villa comes too soon for Barkley
Villa take on Brighton next in the Premier League on 2 April.
With Barkley not yet back in training after this setback, he is not expected to be available for that one.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News: “The best case here is that he continues to build up his fitness, whereas the worst case is that he has picked up a setback after returning to training from his knee injury.

“The latter does seem possible, as he has been ruled out for a while.
“*He’s not back in training, so do not expect him to be available for the next one.*“
The Villans will be looking to pick up the three points at the AmEx Stadium as they look to qualify for the Champions League for the second season in a row.
Unai Emery will not be tempted to rush Ross Barkley back into action
At 31, Barkley is no longer in his prime and is susceptible to re-injury a lot more than players in their 20s.
Add to that, he’s also been a bench option this season for Unai Emery, so the Spaniard would not want him to play through the pain barrier.
It’s best for all parties involved that he’s given ample time to recover and get back to full fitness as and when he does.
He has proven that he can chip with the odd goal and it remains to be seen if he can add to his tally before the end of the season.
