Everton could end up being an unexpected beneficiary of the 115 charges looming over Manchester City at the moment.

The footballing world is eagerly awaiting the results of the charges that the defending Premier League champions are facing over alleged financial fair play breaches.

The punishment, if found guilty, could end up being extremely severe for Pep Guardiola’s side, but it might not stop there either.

The ramifications of City being found guilty may go much further than handing them a punishment, though, as other Premier League clubs are preparing to swoop in and pick the bones.

Everton lawyers may swoop on Manchester City

There are question marks about what it will mean for other teams who have been negatively affected by City’s success during the period when the charges are hanging over them.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Whether it’s the likes of Liverpool who missed out on Premier League titles, or Everton, who failed to get top four in 2014 after losing to City twice that season.

Kieran Maguire reflected on that during his appearance on The Overlap Fan Debate (April 1) as he revealed this could become an issue for City when asked by an Everton fan whether or not the Toffees will pursue legal action themselves.

He said: “There will be an awful lot of clubs taking legal counsel with a view to, ‘do we think we’ve got a good case?’

“From a legal probability point of view, we do have precedent, so therefore going forward, I suspect there will be a lot of out-of-court settlements, because it’s a lot cheaper doing it, and try to get some sort of mediation and negotiation.

“But the lawyers will be rubbing their hands together if Manchester City lose.”

Everton could financially benefit from Man City’s issues

If City were to be found guilty, then Everton could end up being one of the Premier League member clubs that opts to swoop in and add to their misery.

While the Premier League isn’t going to be able to go back in time and change results or league table finishes, the situation could end up financially benefiting the Toffees.

For Everton, earning some extra cash in an out-of-court settlement would certainly be a positive situation as they would be able to then reinvest that money back into the team to help David Moyes.

The Friedkin Group will likely be assessing their options having only recently completing their takeover at Goodison Park, with the move to Bramley-Moore Dock at the top of the list.

With David Moyes nearly sealing another year of Premier League football already after the troubles under Sean Dyche, attention could switch to matters off the pitch very soon.

It will be an explosive day in the Premier League once a verdict is reached on Manchester City, that’s for sure.
