Liverpool manager Arne Slot has given an update on goalkeeper Alisson’s fitness ahead of Wednesday night’s Merseyside derby against Everton.
With Caoimhin Kelleher waiting in the wings, in the event of Slot’s regular number one being unavailable, the Reds boss is awaiting a final verdict on the condition of the Brazil star.
Alisson suffered a concussion during the recent World Cup qualifier against Colombia and was forced to come off, and he then missed the 4-1 defeat to Argentina.
The 32-year-old has been following concussion protocol ever since the incident, which occurred when he collided with defender Davinson Sánchez.
And while he has trained with his Liverpool teammates since his return from international duty, he has yet to be cleared for match action.
That decision is set to be made later on Tuesday. But until then, Slot will have to consider starting Kelleher, who played in both legs of Ireland’s 4-2 aggregate win over Bulgaria in the Nations League relegation play-off.
Slot provided an update on both Alisson and Netherlands ace Ryan Gravenberch, who also left his international camp early with an injury.
He told reporters on Tuesday morning: “Ryan is okay although we have to train one more time, but he is okay.
“Ali trained with us as well. The last check has to be made, I think that’s this afternoon after the session, (to determine) if he is available to play.”
He also had news on Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley, who has been out of action since February with an injury.
“Conor is training with us again but we have to make a decision on whether he is playing and if playing means coming in or starting. That’s something I keep for myself,” said Slot.
“But he’s only had a few sessions after being out for quite long with a repetitive injury so we have to make a smart decision with that as well.”
