Matheus Cunha faces an uncertain future at Wolves
Premier League title favourites Liverpool said to be ready to bolster their attacking options this summer with a blockbuster move for highly-rated Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian forward, who recently netted his senior first goal on international duty during a 4-1 defeat to Argentina, is attracting interest from a number of top European sides despite recently committing his future to Wolves by signing a new long-term deal.
Cunha, who arrived from Atletico Madrid for a figure of around £35m after an initial loan move, is currently enjoying his best season to date, having found the net 15 times in 29 appearances this term while also contributing four assists.

The 25-year-old is the biggest factor in helping the club establish a nine point gap on relegation rivals Ipswich Town and has been a key source of goals and creativity throughout the campaign.
Liverpool enter the race to sign Matheus Cunha
Football Insider suggest Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Cunha as they aim to strengthen their attacking options. The outlet explains the Reds are ready to battle Arsenal for the striker’s signature as they seek to improve the central area of the attack amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Darwin Nunez.
Football Insider claims the Uruguayian could push for an exit to achieve regular first team football after failing to hit the ground running under Arne Slot, with those funds potentially facilitating a Cunha deal. Liverpool star Mohamed Salah also faces an uncertain future on the right wing, having not yet signed a contract extension. It appears the Reds, regardless of Salah’s future will make signing a centre forward a priority.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal are thought to be aware of £62.5million release clause which has been inserted into the striker’s contract, making him a much cheaper alternative to someone like Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who has no release clause and an estimated £150m valuation.

Matheus Cunha gives ‘next step’ verdict
When Cunha agreed to sign a contract extension with Wolves in January it was just as important as any signing could be as it fended off interest from numerous Premier League clubs at a crucial point in the season and ensured the striker’s short term future.
However, despite signing a new deal, it appears unlikely that the 25-year-old will stick around for the project next season and instead it is expected that the Brazilian will move onto pastures new with a club competing in one of the top European competitions.
Cunha alluded to thiswhile on international duty when he said, via the Guardian: “We’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
The interview did not go down well with many Wolves fans on social media, who saw it as an unwelcome distraction to the club’s bid to stay in the Premier League, particularly at a point where he serving a self-inflicted suspension for a coming together with Milos Kerkez.

However, Cunha attempted to repair some of the damage in a follow-up post on Instagram, where he said: "It's impossible for the player to be honest in an interview knowing that everything can be taken in any way he wants," he said.
"I don't think a lot of people read the interview, and I don't think that people have the correct interpretation. Of course the point was talking about Wolves, to show everyone how happy I am to be here, to play for this team, to play for these team-mates and of course give back all the love that they give to me. Ambitious players, of course we want to play for something more, to put this club in another level, and of course me and my team-mates will give our all to achieve this goal."
