Ruben Amorim has just opened the door to Viktor Gyokeres Man Utd transfer,‘It depends on…’

Manchester United fans have been pulled back in just when they thought all hope was lost in Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer.

Viktor Gyokeres has dominated the transfer agenda at Old Trafford ever since it was reported that his departure from Sporting is a matter of “when”, and not “if”.

Add the Ruben Amorim factor into it and United looked like a no-brainer move before Gyokeres’ own preference emerged, combined with the club’s preference as well.

Then, it was reported how Amorim’s “shock” in Portugal influenced the proceedings so it looked like United would lose out on him. Until now…

Ruben Amorim on Man Utd transfer strategy

Gyokeres fills a clear area of need with proven output so his fit at Man Utd was seamless and easy.

However, there was one stumbling block and that was Ineos’ transfer strategy, where they wanted to find the next superstar instead of buying an established one.

Gyokeres is by no means on the decline as he turns 27 in June but Ineos have clearly wedded themselves to a philosophy and taking it to its extreme.

Just when all hope was lost for Gyokeres’ move due to this stance, Ruben Amorim opened the door for flexibility in thinking.

He said: “We have to do something different [from buying older players]. But then it depends on the cases – of the position, of the experience of the players, of the opportunity of the market. So I don’t want to say that we are going to do just this.”

Viktor Gyokeres can take Man Utd to next level

Now that Amorim has made it clear that they are not holding on to their transfer strategy like a brick but are treating it case-by-case, there’s no other player better to make an exception for than Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swede ticks all the boxes – familiarity with Amorim’s system, proven goalscoring, pedigree in English football (With Coventry), ideal age profile, and reaching his peak.

He’d be the ideal partner for Rasmus Hojlund to learn from and as someone almost four years younger, eventually take the mantle from him when Gyokeres is on the slide.

Gyokeres already has a pact with Sporting to leave for less than his release clause so United will never have an opportunity like this again both, from a sporting and financial perspective.
