Liverpool predicted XI vs Everton: £35m player makes first start in seven weeks with Arne Slot making big decision

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Wednesday night as the Reds continue their push for the title.

The Premier League leaders host city rivals Everton at Anfield and will be looking to respond after two disappointing results before the international break as Arne Slot’s men were knocked out of the Champions League, before losing the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle.

Several Liverpool stars had good international breaks with their countries and Slot will be hoping they take that momentum with them into the Merseyside Derby.

The last time Liverpool faced Everton, things got heated and Slot is still not happy about things that happened during that Merseyside Derby.

The Dutch coach is aware of the challenge Everton possesses and with the intensity of the last derby in mind, this is how RTK predict Liverpool will line up against Everton.

Defence

Alisson picked up a fitness issue whilst away with Brazil during the international break, however, the goalkeeper will be fit enough to face Everton on Wednesday night.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold out of action and Conor Bradley not being fully fit, Slot has a challenge when picking who to play at right-back and the Dutch coach is expected to play it safe with Jarell Quansah starting the game off in the role. Andy Robertson will start on the opposite flank.

As for the centre-back pairing, Slot is expected to look no further than his main duo of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as that partnership has been exceptional this season.

Midfield

Having left the Netherlands camp during the international break, there were concerns over the fitness of Ryan Gravenberch heading into the Merseyside derby, however, the Dutch star is set to start from the off on Wednesday night in the number six.

Alexis Mac Allister had a great international break with Argentina and will have returned to Liverpool full of confidence and ready to play his part against Everton.

The World Cup winner will likely be partnered by Dominik Szoboszlai in midfield. Although it would not be a surprise to see Curtis Jones start in the other number eight role, given the impact he had during the last Merseyside derby.

Forwards

When it comes to Liverpool’s forward line, there is no questioning Mohamed Salah’s presence as the Egyptian has been phenomenal throughout the campaign on the right wing.

Having not started a Premier League game for seven weeks, Cody Gakpo could be ready to return to the Liverpool starting 11 on the left wing after getting minutes into his legs during the international break with the Netherlands.

The Dutch star is having his best season at Anfield since completing his £35m move from PSV Eindhoven back in 2022 and partnering the 25-year-old through the middle should be Luis Diaz, a front three often seen throughout the current campaign.

There is also a possibility that Diaz and Gakpo have their roles switched to deal with the physicality of Everton’s centre-backs, which is an option Slot may choose to go with.
