San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch does not know exactly when the contract extension for Brock Purdy will get done, but he is confident it will get done, perhaps even in short order.
Lynch discussed the status of the negotiations Monday afternoon with media assembled at the NFL annual meetings in Palm Beach.
"I think we're going to get the deal done," Lynch said. "That's what I believe. We'll just leave it at that."
We'll put that down as a promise from the GM.
Neither side has placed a deadline on when the deal has to get done, but Purdy is probably anxious to get the deal done as he will stand to make at least 10 times as much as he is scheduled to make in 2025, the final year under his rookie contract.
Purdy's representatives were hoping to get the deal done by the middle of the month so Purdy can participate in offseason training activities with no obstacles. Lynch said he has more confidence the deal will get done in the short term than he has in other negotiations.
"I don't think it's too optimistic [to get it done by then]," Lynch said. "I think I understand why Brock wants that. We'd like that very much, so we've just got to find that right place for both sides, and I would love nothing more than for that to be the case."

The 49ers have jettisoned many players this spring in preparations for making room under the salary cap for Purdy. They did not participate too much in free agency to keep salary cap space for the quarterback.
"Brock wants to be with us," Lynch said. "We want Brock to be with us. When that's the case, these things typically get done. And does it happen this offseason? I don't know. Hopefully it happens real soon this offseason, but I think that's the extent of getting into those things. ... There's motivation on both sides, and that's always a good thing."
Smart speculation would have Purdy making at least $50 million per year in a new deal.
