Bills Coach Sean McDermott A Hypocrite In ‘Tush Push’ Debate

The Buffalo Bills ran their own version of the controversial 'Tush Push' at a higher rate than the founders of the play in the Philadelphia Eagles.

Yet, why are they a part of the brigade that feels the need to get rid of the play altogether?

Bills head coach Sean McDermott spoke at the league ownership meetings in Palm Beach, Florida, in his agreement that the Tush Push should be banned due to the injury concerns that come.

"My position hasn't really changed at all. I feel where I'm most concerned is even though there's not significant data out there to this point, my biggest concern is that of the health and safety of the players first and foremost," said McDermott. "It's two things: added force for one and the pasture of the players being asked to execute that play. That's where my concern comes in."

The NFL created an independent study that showed there were no additional injuries that came out of the use of the play. Despite that reality, coaches like McDermott are worried about the long-term ramifications of the play.

Even if his Bills used the play - or a version of it - to their own great success. ... with big-bodied QB Josh Allen plowing his way into the end zone.

"I think it's a loose term of what defines a 'Tush Push'" McDermott admitted. "There's different forms of it out there. I know we are one of the teams that people identify that run it. That's fair. There's other teams as well. Look, we are always going to act in a way that's best for the health and safety of the players and I think that is the responsible way to go."

For Buffalo to even consider that their style of the Tush Push is different than the Eagles is laughable ... and hypocritical. It is at its core the same play and the same type of trajectory moving forward.

And that reality is what the team misses most on the Tush Push debate.
