Nottingham Forest Injury Updates: Latest on key duo and short turnaround concerns ahead of Man Utd clash

Nottingham Forest have some injury concerns ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League clash with Man Utd

Manchester United make the trip to the City Ground on Tuesday night to face Nottingham Forest, who are looking to secure a place in next season’s Champions League. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are third in the Premier League and after an impressive season are among the favourites to clinch a place in the top four.

The Red Devils hopes of qualifying for European football via their Premier League position are all-but over but Ruben Amorim will be keen to maintain the momentum his side gained ahead of the international break after a draw with Arsenal and wins over Real Sociedad and Leicester City.

United have a number of injury concerns ahead of the game with Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Amad Diallo and Ayden Heaven all sidelined. However, Amorim will have the chance to welcome back the likes of Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro at the City Ground while Mason Mount is also in contention after appearing on the bench against the Foxes before the international break.

Nottingham Forest Injury Update ahead of Man Utd

Forest were without star striker Chris Wood over the weekend as they beat Brighton and Hove Albion on penalties to reach the semi-final of the FA Cup, where they will play Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side beat Bournemouth 2-1 on Sunday in their quarter final but it came at a cost with star striker Erling Haaland picking up an ankle injury.

Wood was injured on international duty with New Zealand and providing an update ahead of the game, Nuno said: "He's improving, getting better day by day. We have to assess him day by day. A big contusion so [it is] very painful."

The striker has been Forest’s main goal threat this term, with 18 goals. No other Forest player has more than five, highlighting Wood’s significance. Morgan Gibbs-White was withdrawn late on against Brighton with a knock and asked about other injury worries, Santo said: "Of course we have. After we played extra time and a demanding game, we have to assess them all. I think we are recovering well. The joy and the happiness of coming through and playing at Wembley will for sure give us an extra run."

Nuno on quick turnaround and Man Utd test

Forest played 120 minutes on Saturday evening as they drew 0-0 with Brighton before winning the penalty shootout. United, meanwhile, have not played since their win over Leicester City back on March 16.

On the short turnaround, Nuno said: "It's very difficult on the players but we see them and they are recovering well. They are always being positive so we are confident we can perform again against a good team. In this short turnaround, it is all about recovering. We're going to be OK."

The Forest boss was also in no mood to underestimate United, despite the Red Devils’ struggles in the Premier League this season. He said: "You can see the quality of the players and quality of the squad. They have quality all over the pitch. They have good options and solutions."
