Ruben Amorim has one major concern about Kobbie Mainoo as Ineos open door to £70m Man United sale

Kobbie Mainoo’s future as a Manchester United player continues to grow more and more uncertain.

It has been a meteoric rise to success for Kobbie Mainoo since his incredible breakthrough to the Manchester United first team.

At just 19 years of age, Mainoo is an England international and a key part of Ruben Amorim’s side.

Mainoo has a contract with United until 2027, but the Red Devils are understandably eager to tie the teenage star down to a long-term deal to end speculation about a move away.

However, Mainoo’s contract talks have proven tricky with reports that he is considering turning down the offer and seeking a move elsewhere.

Ruben Amorim’s concern about Kobbie Mainoo

Mainoo was linked with Chelsea over the January window, and there is a growing concern that those rumours will rumble on into the summer.

Reports claim Ineos are open to offers for Mainoo as they try to ease the PSR problems at Old Trafford. As an academy product, his sale would represent pure profit.

Despite Amorim saying he wants to keep Mainoo, a report from iNews suggests the United boss does have one concern about the young midfielder.

They claim Amorim is “not completely convinced” that Mainoo has the fitness levels to be a success in his 3-4-2-1 system.

Therefore, Ineos would “reluctantly sell” Mainoo if an offer of around £70m arrived in the summer.

Ruben Amorim wants physical players at Man United

As soon as he arrived as United’s head coach, Amorim wanted better physicality in his side – a trait he believes is crucial to succeeding in the Premier League.

In Amorim’s first-ever press conference, he said: “I think we have to improve the physical aspect of the team.”

Amorim demanded players run like “mad dogs” if they want to win the Premier League, and reportedly he isn’t convinced by Mainoo.

However, earlier this season a stat emerged that Mainoo had covered more ground than any other United player in the Premier League.

Kobbie Mainoo has covered more distance (70km), completed more take-ons (14), won more tackles (13) and won more fouls (10) tha any other Man Utd player in the Premier League this season.

While he may not be United’s fastest player, Mainoo certainly has enough energy to thrive in midfield.

Mainoo has returned from injury and will be in contention to face Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening.
