Tetairoa McMillan NFL Draft profile: The big-time wide receiver prospect with even bigger potential

Tetairoa McMillan NFL Draft profile: The big-time wide receiver prospect with even bigger potential

Early evaluations suggest the wide receiver group in the 2025 NFL Draft class lacks star power, but there are at least two notable exceptions.

Two-way star Travis Hunter is the only wideout who ranks among the top 10 players in NFL insider Daniel Jeremiah's ranking of the top 50 prospects, but he may become a cornerback at the next level.

DAZN News profiles Arizona Wildcats Tetairoa McMillan, First-team Associated Press All-American, and arguably the most talented pure wide receiver in the 2025 class.

Overview

Considered a five-star recruit by most scouts following a glittering high school career in Southern California, McMillan was the most highly rated signing in the history of the Arizona football program.

Even as a freshman in 2022, McMillan excelled, amassing 702 yards and eight touchdowns on only 39 receptions.

As impressive as his debut campaign was, McMillan's productivity in the following two seasons truly showcased his dominance and development, as he combined for another 2,700 cards and 18 touchdowns despite playing while injured at times.

At 6'5" and 219 pounds, McMillan has the prototypical size of an 'X receiver' who can serve as the focal point of an offense and make contested catches.

The youngster also has the talent to effectively run most routes in the route tree.

What sets McMillan apart from other big-bodied receivers is his surprisingly smooth motion and short-area quickness, which are rare qualities for someone of his size.

NFL Outlook

NFL teams covet players with the combination of size and athletic skills that McMillan possesses.

Even with the rise of smaller, shifter receivers over the last decade plus, larger wideouts such as Mike Evans and Drake London continue to thrive as target hogs for their respective teams.

While often criticised for his slow release and lack of suddenness, McMillan's physicality and ability to dominate smaller defensive backs should mean he succeeds in any offensive scheme.

He may find it more challenging to remain as dynamic after the catch against quicker defensive backs at the next level. Still, double-digit touchdowns are well within McMillan's range of outcomes as an excellent red-zone threat.

2025 NFL Draft Projection

McMillan did not participate in athletic testing or position drills at the NFL Combine, preferring to wait until his Pro Day.

24 teams were in attendance at Arizona's Pro Day and witnessed McMillan run a 4.48 second 40-yard dash, which would have ranked 25th among all wide receivers at the Combine.

While that speed was faster than many expected, given his size, it is unofficial and is not likely to alter his draft stock significantly.

Teams may be more concerned about the re-emergence of this clip recorded over a year ago.

Time will tell whether McMillan's comments affect his draft stock, but NFL insider Charles Davies appears to pay it no mind in his latest mock, projecting the young wideout going 12th overall to the Dallas Cowboys.

Considering his excellent profile, the lack of consensus first-round talent at wide receiver, and the pressing need for several teams to upgrade their pass-catching options, it would be no surprise to see McMillan selected in the top 10 to teams like the Carolina Panthers or New Orleans Saints.
